ABOUT

The Agoge

In ancient Sparta, the agōgē was the training. Not a place. A process that forged ordinary people into something durable.

Who You're Working With

Black-and-white portrait of Dave Hall, personal trainer and movement coach in Athens, GA

I'm Dave Hall. I've spent my adult life learning how bodies move and get stronger.

Thirty years in the martial arts, including Tai Chi, Shorin Ryu karate, Muay Thai, Kali, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, where I'm currently a brown belt. Years in the building trades and on the line in professional kitchens, which are their own forms of physical education. Somewhere in all of this I learned the thing I care most about now: how to help people build strength that actually lasts, and how to do it without breaking them along the way.

I moved to Athens with my wife and set up a training space here because I wanted to do this the right way. One person at a time. No quotas, no crowded floor, no cookie-cutter programs. Just good coaching, honestly delivered.

How I Train People

Assessed, not guessed. We start by finding out how you move. Everything after that is built on what we find.

Control before load. Strength you can't control isn't strength; it's a liability. We earn the load.

Built to last. The goal isn't to wreck you in an hour so you feel like you had a "good workout." The goal is to have you still training, and still strong, for as long as possible.

You matter. I keep the roster small on purpose. You get my full attention. On the movements, on the details, on you.
